VAPORBLASTING

What Is Vapour Blasting?

Vapour blasting is the process of using compressed air combined with a water/blast media slurry, to gently remove surface contaminants from an object's surface .
The benefit of vapour (wet) blasting over traditional dry blasting is that it uses water to lubricate the cleaning process.
This provides a cushion on the surface of the object meaning no surface material is removed in the process, producing a uniform satin finish, making it suitable for fine tolerance cleaning and shot peening.

What Can Be Vapour Blasted?

Due to its gentle nature most materials can be cleaned, but is particularly good for aluminium, brass and other soft metals.
Ferrous metals such as Steel can be cleaned but immediate coating are required afterwards due to formation of flash rust.

Here at Carburatori we use a vapormate made by vapormatt, with a working area of 300x580x400mm and a maximum load capacity of 25kg.
The Vapormate wet blast unit is well suited for manual processing of smaller components, ranging from carburettors upto larger items such as vehicle cylinder heads and bike engines.

What Media Is Used?

Here at Carburatori we mostly use a fine glass bead media, but also stock bicarbonate of soda and iron oxide dependent on the object which is to be cleaned.

Pricing

Our labour rate for vapour blasting is £40 per hour.  A carburettor already stripped and de-greased will take just under an hour dependent on condition.
